Psycho-Diagnostic Assessments
These types of assessments can offer you clarity around which psychiatric disorders you meet criteria for and what treatment options are available to you. Some clients seek these assessments out because they may have been diagnosed with several psychiatric disorders in the past and are not sure which ones they may continue to meet criteria for. Others have felt they were misdiagnosed in the past or have had suspicions they meet criteria for one or more psychiatric disorders. You are welcome to book a stand-alone assessment or ask for this service as part of your therapeutic journey with Kay Vinova or Dr. Kat Merwin.
Over the course of several sessions (typically 3 to 6 billable hours), you will be asked questions about your mental and medical health, family history, attachment and struggles you may have had regulating emotions, substance use, how mental health symptoms have impacted your and/or others, personality styles, and treatment history. Kay Vinova or Dr. Kat Merwin will ask you to fill out a number of self-report measures. If requested, the assessor can provide a detailed report or summary letter. Depending on the issues presented, the assessor may ask to speak with someone close to the client (e.g., parent, friend, partner, past therapist) either in-person, by phone, or virtually as that may provide more background information.
Typical Timeline for the Assessment:
- 50-minute session where the assessor will ask background information, identify whether a collateral interview is needed, and begin screening for various psychiatric disorders.
- The assessor will then ask the client to complete a series of self-report measures.
- Depending on the complexity of issues, the client and assessor will meet for several sessions either in 50-minute increments or as multiple hour sessions depending on preference.
- From there, the assessor will review all the information gathered and schedule a 50-minute feedback session where the results of the assessment and treatment recommendations will be given.
- If the client wishes a formal assessment report to be written, the assessor will update them on the estimated cost and write the assessment report in a timely matter.
Breakdown of fees:
- 3 to 6 billable hours for session time
- 50-minute Feedback session
Optional:
- 1 to 3 hours for report writing
We charge $225 per billable hour, which means these assessments can range from $900 to $2250. This is a rough estimate of what may be involved and what the assessment may cost. Depending on the complexity of the struggles the client may be having, additional assessment sessions may be required to provide accurate diagnostic impressions. This can be discussed with the assessor during the first appointment.
