What are your fees for therapy?
For Psychologists, we charge $225 per 50 minute session. For Social Workers, we charge $200 per 50 minute session. For Registered Counselling Therapists, we charge $175 per 50 minute session. Limited sliding scale options may be available. Please contact us to learn more.
How long are sessions?
Sessions range from 50 to 90 minutes in length.
Are you covered by MSI or private health insurance?
Private psychological services are currently not covered by MSI. We would encourage you to ask your private insurance coverage whether you have coverage for psychological or counselling services, how much coverage you have per year, what portion of each session is covered and whether your insurance has a ceiling amount of how much they will cover (e.g., they will only cover 80% of $210 instead of 80% of $225), and how you submit receipts for reimbursement.
In the case of Relationship Therapy, how do you do billing?
Each partner will be listed on the receipt and we generally take turns of which partner we charge for each session. However, you can request that one partner is solely billed or alternate billing between partners.
Do you offer Direct Billing?
We offer direct billing for anyone covered with Medavie Blue Cross or Sunlife as their primary insurance. Please note that in cases where Blue Cross or Sunlife is your secondary coverage, Blue Cross and Sunlife will not allow us to directly bill. If you are a VAC client or have coverage with NIHB, we also offer direct billing.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Visa, Mastercard, American Express, e-transfer, and cash.
What is your cancellation policy?
We require a minimum of 24 hours notice if you want to reschedule or cancel your appointment. Failure to do so will result in being charged the full session fee. This fee may be waived in cases of emergency or dangerous weather. Please note that on your receipt, it will be noted that you missed an appointment. The majority of insurance companies (including NIHB and VAC) will not reimburse you the cost of missed appointments.
What can I expect in the first therapy session?
There are a few focuses for the first session: Reviewing confidentiality agreements and policies, briefly reviewing your mental health history and goals for treatment, and primarily- getting a sense of fit for each person. While the majority of therapists are well-trained in a variety of evidence-based treatments, the success of therapy is built on the relationship you have with the therapist. We would want clients to walk away from the first few sessions feeling like they get along with their therapist, they generally feel safe and comfortable within the therapy room, and they have a sense that the therapist is competent in helping them reach their goals and address issues. If you and/or the therapist feels it is not the right fit, the therapist will make recommendations of therapists they feel may be better suited.
How often should I see my therapist?
Generally, clients see their therapist on a bi-weekly basis. However, based on your needs and the availability of the therapist, the therapist may recommend meeting more or less frequently.
