WPATH Assessments – Adults 18+

At Affirming Psychology, we recognize that there is no one way to be trans or medically transition. Currently, WPATH assessments are required in order to access Top or Bottom surgeries for trans folks. We transitioned to an informed-consent model in Nova Scotia in order to access gender affirming hormone therapy in July, 2023 for adults.

The assessment typically takes 1 to 2, 50-minute sessions. During the assessment, Kay will hear your story to affirming your gender identity, explore the impact of gender dysphoria, talk about supports in your life, complete a brief mental health screener, and then go over the risks and benefits of whatever step towards medically transitioning you would like to take. Kay more goes over the risks and benefits not to obtain your actual consent since they’re not a medical professional, but more to assess your capacity to make informed consent decisions. Kay does not charge for the time it takes to write the letter. Since most clients can complete the assessment in one session, the cost is $225 for the assessment and letter.
